Need More ISK, Need More DPS

Greetings fellow human, how is your day today? I've been devoting a lot of my free time to this game called EVE Online, because it's pretty awesome and so on. My main problem right now is making enough ISK to satisfy my needs of bigger and better ships. Does anyone play the game, if so, how do you make your ingame cash? I'm trying LVL4 missions right now and it's... meh.

Picture related, this ship is bad-ass.

Also regarding WoW, why do I do the same dps (as fury) when I keep a full rotation (BT>RB>HS>Slam) as when I just do BT>HS? Weird. Bad. Who cares.

Have a good day!

The Hobbit Finally Gets Green Light!

As we have waited! But no more. No other than Peter Jackson will be directing it, and it will be shot in 3-D, it is unknown yet whether or not it will be shot in New Zealand. It sounds like filming will start in about a week or two. The project is expected to cost about US$500 million (NZ$660m) to make.

Who's excited?

I Actually Had A Busy Day

Well, it was busy gaming. Mostly. I was still busy. Yesterday I managed to squeeze in some EVE-Online, StarCraft II, Counter-Strike and World of Warcraft into my schedule. I also did some honest work for about 3 hours. Crazy fun!

Just a short rant about the WoW patch; man they really didn't get the balance right. My ~251ish Mage is outdpsing my ~277ish Warrior with about 20% (7500 vs 6000 dps on dummies), and both fire and arcane are really simple to push out dps with, yet with my Warrior I have to constantly stare at my bars and my rage! Boo!

Anyway, looks like aliens didn't land yesterday after all, unless everyone was too busy testing the 4.0.1 WoW patch and didn't notice them. On a related note the miner's from Chile finally got rescued as well. Time for some coffee, and because so many of you liked my post about the International Suit Up Day, here's an awesome wallpaper for ya'll:

The Attention Whore Generation

(Before I even start, I just want to point out that this is a guest entry in this blog. These are not the words of Per Svensson.)

You know what really grinds my gears? Some people of my generation, and probably quite a few of the ones from the generation before it and surely one hell of a lot of those in the generations after it as well. And here's why:

Yesterday in Sweden a guy who suffered from Asperger Syndrome and Autism started a thread on a forum, stating how he was going to take his life and show it live on webcam. Nothing new right, things like these have happened before. People on the forum responded, called him a troll and dared him, and the net result was that he did it. Maybe he had already set his mind to it, so the few who tried to tell him not to did not make him change his mind. But maybe the people who dared him made him actually do it, who knows. I'm told people who suffer from the psychological illnesses named above don't understand irony, when people are not being serious and stuff like that. In any case, he did it and it did not take long before media (who apparently don't usually write or talk about suicides in order to not make others want to do it, or so I'm told) went all over it. Popular daily magazines wrote several news articles, debate articles and what not. The next day there's even an article about a guy who claims he was going to do THE EXACT SAME THING only two years earlier, and how people on forums lack empathy because they responded similarly to how they had responded to his threat: with accusations of trolling and good luck wishes.

This is where my problem is described. People are attention whores, and it's incredibly annoying. Way to pay respect to somebody by going to a major magazine in order to milk the story and get your own 15 minutes of fame. And for what? So you can have your picture and name in the paper, right by an article stating how you were pathetically threatening to take your life but did not dare, how you probably never were even serious about it? He (I'll refrain from using his real name even though he was stupid enough to have them put it in the article and even have them publish a frigging picture of him in it as well) even says the only reason he didn't take his own life is because the police got there before he could manage to. First and foremost, why would you even take so long time setting things up after you've posted online (to get attention) and/or tell people in real life that you're going to take your life so that people could possibly interfere? Second of all, just because you failed once, what does that change? Why wouldn't you just do it again the next day, or a week later? Everybody is different so he may have his reasons but I've got him coined down as just another one of those attention seekers.

Don't be one.

Lots and lots and lots of people threaten about taking their lives, but I dare say 99%+ of all of them are bullshitting because a) they're not serious, or b) they don't dare. It's just like how some young teenage girls say they're ugly because they want people to tell them they're pretty, and they know they look good in the eyes of some people. The ones threatening with committing suicide just take it a step further, or perhaps just in another direction.

People are egotistical douches who should learn what compassion is and understand that not everything revolves around you.

International Suit Up Day Coming Soon

Greetings traveller, only two days from now, on Wednesday, October 13th, we are inclined to once again suit up and show our awesomeness on the International Suit Up Day. I myself will be getting into town to buy a brand new suit of spectacular awesomeness.

This day is of course inspired by the well-known character Barney Stinson, portrayed by Neil Patrick Harris in  the TV-series How I Met Your Mother. I know many of you out there suited up last year, and this year should be no different, for Barney's awesomeness reaches out to all who are truly enlightened.

Well, that is all for today, the word awesomeness was only used 4 times in this post.

10/10/10

What a wonderful autumn day, the sun is shining (mostly) and the leaves that were once green are now almost completely yellow. Any other autumn day you might say, but nay, for today is the 10/10/10. What does this mean, though?

Did you know that 101010 is a valid binary number, and that 101010base2 is no less than 42base10? Coincidence? I think not.  Some people out there are calling this day '42 Day', and suggest we celebrate today as a 'meaning of life' day. What say ye?

P.s I sure hope each and every one of you know what 42 means, or you will make baby panda cry.

WoW: Patch 4.0.1 Next Week

So, the rumour is that Patch 4.0.1 is coming next week, and with it a lot of changes to prepare for the upcoming cataclysm. For one, my warrior's DPS is probably going to take a leap on recount from top 1-3 damage with ~19k dps to bottom with <9k dps. Yes, less than 9,000. Mostly because of the rage nerf (I know, I know: it's for the better come cata... hopefully) combined with armor penetration going away from gear, it's still going to be humiliating! What do?!

Estimated DPS.
It's nice though that you get to play around with brand new talents and quite a bit of new abilities. Basically, we're all (except for maybe the hardcore beta-testers and PTR maniacs) going to have to relearn our classes almost from scratch, the dps rotation of every single class is getting thrown around, especially if you have some new damage dealing ability, for example warriors get Raging Blow instead of Whirlwind which is now AoE only, and it's the same with tanking.

Healing on the other hand is also getting a complete overhaul, you are now encouraged to help the group by DPSing while healing in order to get better mana-reg or stronger heals off, example talent: Atonement. Kind of feels like the healing role is going to be harder to fill, which is fun for most of us, but we all know some really bad healer that is going to have an even harder time keeping people alive.

Anyway, I'm not even sure what to gem seeing as all my ArP gems are getting switched out to crit. I've heard some are going strength but a lot of people insist that haste and hit is going to be all the rage. WTB spreadsheet! What do you think?

Minecraft - The Devil

If you're one of those people who got stuck playing FarmVille or some other simple yet addictive-as-hell game and you never want to go through that again, stop reading right now. This post is about Minecraft.

Minecraft was born in the mind of  Notch, he was influenced by similar games (Infiniminer, to mention one) and had alot of spare time after quitting his job as a game developer. The game itself looks incredibly simple, the graphics are so, for lack of a better word, bad that even Hideo Kojima probably has nightmares about it.
Picture grabbed from Google Images.
But what is so, so, so captivating about Minecraft is that it awakes the architect in each and every one of us. You  want to build bigger and better fortresses/houses/underground tunnels/etc. The first day I spent about 8 straight hours ingame, sad I know. But wait, there's more!

Monsters
This game isn't just about building, there's also the survival part. At day, the sun is shining (yellow giant mega pixel), but after the sun sets and it gets dark, the monsters come out. Yeah, these bad fellas are going to hunt you and your family until you die. To kill monsters, you need to make weapons. Weapons are made of wood, preferably combined with something stronger like rock, iron or diamond. Diamond is of course the strongest material you can use for your weapons, but it's also much harder to find.

Every world is different
When you first step into the world of minecraft, a huge world is auto-generated for you (unless you join a multiplayer server, then it is generated on the server duh!) and it wont look close to anyone else's. Another very awesome feature is that it is infinite horizontally, yes that means what you think it means, you can't run off the edge of the world, it is generated as you go. There are neat features such as water (that can flood places like caves, and you can carry it in home-made buckets if you want to make your own pool) and lava (which burns!)  and much more. The game is still in heavy development, but alot of features work very well. A heads up though; as I write this damage isn't yet implemented in the multiplayer software, so I suggest testing singleplayer first.

But hey, don't take my word for it, try it yourself at www.minecraft.net or check out this youtube search
Here's a personal favourite of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnjSWPxJxNs

Counter-Strike 1.6 Luck!

Hey, until I actually write something good, here's me pwning it up in CS 1.6. Tryout for fnatic next? ;) You might've played it once or twice, or perhaps on a daily basis, either way you could find this entertaining.

Please note that there was no cheating going on (alot of people seem to think so, can't really blame 'em), these frags are spread out over a longer time period (~5-6 years probably) and it's more of a series of clips, not a real frag movie. Also no public, just tournament/league games. If you have something similar, doesn't have to be Counter-Strike, please share. Enjoy!

StarCraft II: Funday Monday with Day[9]

First off, if you're a StarCraft 2 player and you've missed Day[9], go check his videos out here (teamliquid.net), but unless you have been totally off the grid since the release of SC2, you should know who he is. And he is awesome.

He does some of the best SC2-videos out there with detailed guides, tutorials and replays where his expertise is staggered only by his extremely good looks. Something that he has recently started to do is these weekly things called Funday Monday and Newbie Tuesday which are just brilliant.
Funday Monday is where after a show the viewers get a restriction in their game play and must do something out of the ordinary in order to win, for example the first week of Funday Monday he aimed his restriction at the zerg players: No queens were allowed to be made. We got to see some amazing games with Spine Crawlers, creep highways and whatnot. The second week, the Protoss players had to make a Carrier before their first expansion; alot of interesting games there as well but the most interesting were probably the replays where no other than HuK himself participated, he faced off versus no other than the players Tarson and Brat_OK; the VOD of those games is available here (blip.tv), if you haven't you should definitely check it out.

This week, Terrans got an interesting restriction: No marines, marauders or siege tanks. Going to be interesting for sure, I don't know his exact air times (it's streamed live, VODs available 24 hours later) but I'm definitely going to check them out once they get up.

Edit: Here's the latest Funday Monday with the terran restrictions: http://blip.tv/file/4205104

Politics Are Going To Decide Our Future, For Real

It isn't a mystery to anyone that politicians and people alike rule the Earth, they make the calls on what to invest in and whatnot, and most of them are in office thanks to democratic voting systems. But how far ahead to they actually plan? Can we get them to plan even further?

The most famous physicist and cosmologist of our time, Stephen Hawking, has stated on multiple (I think) occasions that human beings need to venture into space in order to ensure the survival of our race, many people agree with him, and I believe that he is right. The Earth is sooner or later going to be unable to sustain life, be it our own doing (nukes?) or some other catastrophe (asteroids, sun blowing up/going berserk, etc) but the fact remains: it will happen. Maybe within 50 years, maybe within 500,000 years.

What I can't understand is why the leaders of our world doesn't devote more resources in space technology, when we know that it is the single most important field of science where we need to see breakthroughs. Instead NASA gets less and less money every year.

Yes I know; the financial situation world-wide right now sucks and it needs to get back up on it's feet, and we need to sacrifice resources, but after we've gotten ourselves stable again, will NASA (and more) see an increase in their budget? Judging by the current political situation: probably not. Shit sucks.

I know we are trying; NASA is, the Chinese is, I think Russia is and maybe some other government as well. As far as I know, China is currently aiming for the moon, they are currently  sending unmanned probes in preparation for a possible manned station on the moon. We have the International Space Station which is doing loads of research, all-in-all not that bad but it can be so much more. We can get more Universities world-wide to focus more on this, if we want to. Don't we want to?

We need to get our politicians more involved in space technology, to get their eyes open to the single most important quest for humanity: the future colonization of space.

So I Got A New Bot

World of Warcraft; the devil. Playing it takes time and as we all know, wasting time can be boring and contra productive to the rest of your life. But there's a reason millions of people play it, it's hella addictive!

So to solve this puzzle, I resort to using bots to farm my gold. Most people can probably argue that getting gold is the most boring and also most time consuming thing you constantly need to do in WoW, unless you're a member of the Auction House High Roller Club, which I am regrettably not. And Cataclysm is coming, so gimme sum golds.

Anyway, I've used many bots throughout WoW's lifetime, I've had a few bans and I've made a few thousand gold so deciding for a bot and getting it set up wasn't too hard. I went with the strongest one on the market right now: Gather Buddy. There's a reason for that. I wasn't surprised about the ease of install and how neat it looked; so many users recommend it. The single and only negative thing I could find on it was that it uses injection. Yes, injection is bad. But I, and many other users, argue that if blizz wants to find you; they will, whether or not you are using a passive bot or not. The only real safe bet software wise is a truly private bot and I don't know anyone who runs one.

Anyway, after setting Gather Buddy up and pressing "Start Botting", I didn't run into a single problem. Good stuff. Back to slacking then.

First!

Um.. yes. I'll have a go at this later.
